Moulton Primary School Trips and Events
Every year Moulton Primary School arranges for each year group to make at least one curriculum-related trip to local places of interest.
Year 2 – Barnwell Country Park
During the summer term we take the year 2 children to Barnwell Country Park near Oundle in Peterborough.
This trip is linked with the Year 2 Science work on habitats, English work on writing non-fiction and art where we are doing observational drawings from nature. It involves pond dipping and a sensory walk. Follow-up work involves writing and sketching linked to our school wildlife area.
Barnwell County Park has been awarded the "Green Flag" for the quality of its facilities and the high environmental standards. You can find out more about Barnwell Country Park at:

Year 3 – Holdenby House
The day is planned as part of our National Curriculum programme of study on the Victorian Period and really brings that era of history to life. During the day, the children take on the identity of poor Victorian servants. They will participate in household chores and preparation for the afternoon visit from “Her Ladyship”. The whole day will be played in role to allow the children to experience ‘real’ Victorian life.
The children come dressed for the part, they do not need to be elaborate, in fact the simpler the better as the children will be “working” so their clothes may get a little dirty. The children take a packed lunch wrapped in a tea towel!

Year 4 – Sulgrave Manor
In the autumn term Year 4 children have a ‘Tudor’ experience at Sulgrave Manor. The whole day is based upon role plays where the children are dressed up to fit the part, taking in dancing, music and acting. The day ends with a tour of the Manor House observing how the Tudors lived, visiting the kitchens, the bedrooms and the Grand Hall.
This experience links in with our history topic and literacy as the children will be writing up their experiences upon return to school.

Year 6 - Isle of Wight
In June/July the Year 6 children head off on a residential to the Isle of Wight. This is an end of Key Stage 2 trip providing a wealth of experience for the children. The trip includes visits to the threatre where the children have a hands on experience, water sports acitivites, a visit to Blackgang Chine. Children's imagination runs wild as they enjoy the many themed areas around the park. Whether it be smugglers on the high seas, goblins and trolls inside Rumpus Mansion, or the wild west of Frontierland, Blackgang provides a fertile base for activity play. Alum Bay, with its' coloured sands is another exciting place where they can fill ornaments with the different coloured sands to bring home and take rides on the chair lifts.
